SOX SWEEP CHAMPS
Double game summaries before Friday's doubleheader.
Anaheim Angels 2
Boston Red Sox 4
W: PEDRO MARTINEZ (8-2)
L: Sele (6-9)
Pedro was truly magnificent that night. He went the full 9 getting his second Complete Game of the season. He threw 128 pitches, 91 of which were strikes. That is a strike to ball ratio of 2.46 to 1 which is Godly. Although he gave up 10 hits, he only walked one batter and allowed a solitary Earned Run. He struck out 11 Angels. It was the 5th time this season he struck out 10+ batters.
McCarty made an error and is 1 for 2 with the Sox in chances. But I still love the signing. Giambi's bat is non-existant and his defense is sub-par. McCarty can be a solid defensive replacement along with Damian Jackson to help bolster the right side of the infield. Nomar's range and Mueller's low error count of 9 along with the two defensive replacements makes the defense a non-liability.
After this game on Baseball Tonight, tim Kurkjan sort of called Pedro out for not finishing games and not pitching every 5th day. Earth to Kurkjan, Grady and the coaches decide when Pedro pitches and when he doesn't. Pedro has never asked out of a game or a start (unlike cl*mens) and never will. He is an ace through and through.
Pedro easily wins Man of the Game for his outstandign eprformance.
Anaheim Angels 3
Boston Red Sox 9
W: Burkett (9-5)
L: Ortiz (13-9)
Wrapup & Box Score
Divisionakl Magic #: 54
Wild Card Magic #: 48
Oakland lost to Detroit, New York beat Texas. We have breathing room in the Wild Card and are definately within striking distance of the Y*nkees.
David "The Crusher" Ortiz will receive the Man of the Game for his two solo homers. He also contributed a walk to the cause. He has been a huge offensive surprise and has been seriously underrated by the national sports media. Here are the MOTG standings after 45 awarded:
1. Nomar - 6
2. PEDRO - 5
3. Varitek - 4
4. Mueller, Nixon, Millar - 3
7. Manny, R. Halladay (TOR) - 2
9. Ortiz, Burkett, Lowe, Walker, Kapler, Burkett, Sanchez, Rupe, Lyon, D. Rolls (TB) M. Mussina (NYY), A. Pettitte (NYY) J. Crede (CWS), E. Loiza (CWS), JD Drew (StL), B. Myers (PHI), J. Pierre (FLA) - 1
Doubleheader vs. Balto today. Lowe in the morning, Fossum at night. Should be interesting to see who gets cut off the roster when Fossum is activated. I think it has to be Jones.
Oh yeah, and happy B-Day to The Sherriff at ObeyPedro.com
