DOMINICANS BEAT PIRATES 11-8
Pedro and Manny and Ortiz, oh my!
Notable performances:
Kapler: 1/4, 3B, 2 R, 3 RBI
Shumpert: 2/4, 3B, 2 R, RBI
Ramirez: 3/3, 2B, R, 3 RBI
Ortiz: 1/3, R
Millar: 2/4, 2 2Bs, 2 RBI
Varitek: 1/2, R
Crespo: 1/2, 2 R
Martinez: 4 IP, 2 H, 3 R, ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 0 HR
Embree: IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 9 BB, K, 0 HR
PEDRO!
Sox ST records:
Overall: 10-6 (.625)
League games: 8-6 (.571)
Mayor's Cup: 2-1
Sox play the Blue Jays tommorrow afternoon.
NIXON AND GARCIAPARRA OUT
Nixon is out until May with a mildly herniated disc in his back. Nomar has mild tendinitis in his right Achilles heel. He may miss Opening Day. Nomar probably won't play in any games for 2 weeks which is dangerously close to the beginning of the year. The Sox will use Kapler and Millar in RF. Manny can also play right as well. Burks will get some playing time at first with Millar platooning in right. Reese will play SS with Mark Bellhorn probably replacing him at second. The modified lineup could look like this:
1. CF Damon
2. 3B Mueller
3. LF/RF/DH Ramirez
4. 1B/DH Ortiz
5. RF/1B Millar
6. RF Kapler or 1B/DH Burks
7. C Varitek
8. 2B Bellhorn
9. SS Reese
It isn't a bad lineup but it lacks strength at the end. I think the Sox should consider giving Crespo a chance at short due to his terriffic Spring.
