GRADY STRIKES BACK

Some quotes:

On counting on Pedro Martinez to win Game 7 of the ALCS: "Time after time after time this year, when this kid got into a jam in an inning where it's getting close to the end of his outing, he's the one we left in there to get out of the jam that inning. Then we'd take him out of the game. We'd done it through the year, over and over and over. We got a bad result this time. Most of the time, we got good results. And he'd have gotten it done. What beat him was the bloop hit by Posada."

Grady, his ERA after throwing 100 pitches was disgustingly high. And it got higher every 5 pitches. The strategy that had been the most succesful, particulalry in the playoffs, was to let him throw just over 100 pitches, and put the pen in. Timlin, Williamson, and Embree were nasty in the playoffs.

On "The Curse": "I had players come and tell me that when they're on the field they're thinking about those ghosts. They think about Bill Buckner -- and not wanting to be a Bill Buckner. And if I got a couple of players come tell me that face-to-face, then I know in my heart I got twenty thinking that. It's just a couple of them got the balls enough to say it out loud."

Why don't you call the team a bunch of pussies. Way to elave with class, Grady.

On being fired: "I knew that if we didn't win the World Series this year, somebody was gonna be the goat."

Goat? You blew the biggest game in Red Sox history since 1986!

On the 2004 Red Sox team: "If Boston plays 170 or better games next year, then maybe the result of their decision was the right one (referring to the number of games his team played, regular season and playoffs combined.) But, they better not forget they have to play those games with some human bodies. And they have to play 170 or better. And that's a lot of games."

What the FUCK does this mean? WE KNOW THE SEASON CAN LAST UP TO AND INCLUDING 181 GAMES OR MORE! Are we sure Grady isn't related to Jimy?

On coming in second: Over the past few months, Little has thought a lot about something his dad used to say not just about baseball but about life in general: 'No one ever knows who finished in second place.' "This experience I've had has about halfway proven my dad to be a liar. Sometimes people do remember who comes in second."

Yeah, when you blow it and fail, people remember you.

CHARITY CD
Peter Gammons has come out with a charity CD to benefit the Jimmy Fund. The album features tracks by Pearl Jam and the Allman Brothers Band, as well as Boston's own Dropkick Murphy's.
