SOX DROP ONE TO THE SCUM
NY Y*nkees 7
Boston RS 3
W: Paul Quantrill (1-0)
L: D-Lowe (1-1)
Tough loss for the Sox. I figured we'd win today because the pitching matchup favored us with D-Lowe goign against Jose "Not Worth It" Contreras. Well, Lowe went 2.2 IP and allowed 7 runs off 8 hits and 4 walks. Truly a terrible start for Lowe. On the positive side, Manny continues to crush the ball and the bullpen didn't allow a run. We had some enar rallies including a 2 run 3rd inning that ended due to two fantastic plays from Pay-Rod and Travis Lee.
The Man of the Game is Paul Quantrill. He releived Contreras in the 3rd with runners on 3rd and 2nd and 1 out. He pitched 2 and 2/3 and did not allow the Sox to score. He only let up one base runner.
The Bitch-Goat shall be divided thusly:
Lowe: 0.8 - 2.2 IP, 7 ER
Ortiz: 0.1 - 0/4, 5 LOB
Burks: 0.1 - 0/4, 4 LOB
BRUINS BLOWN OUT IN MONTREAL
Boston Bruins 2
Montreal Pussies 5
Goals:
BOS: 7:16 in the 1st: Sergei Samsonov (Bergeron)
MON: 12:37 in the 1st: Darren Langdon (Perreault, Begin)
MON: 6:03 in the 2nd: Saku "Klubhouse Kancer" Koivu (Markov)
MON: 14:23 in the 2nd: Yanic Perrault (Ryder, Ribeiro)
BOS: 4:36 in the 3rd: Sergei Samsonov (Nylander, Gonchar)
MON: 19:19 in the 3rd: Alexei "Vagina" Kovalev EN (Koivu, Zednick)
MON: 19:56 in the 3rd: Jan Bulis EN (Perrault, Souray)
Joe Thornton had a golden opportunity to put the Bruins up 2-0 in the 1st. He was 3 feet from the net and could have shot anywhere on Theodore. Instead, he passed behind him to murray. Now I enjoy seeing a player be selfless and doing things for the team, but the best thing for the team is for our best player, Thornton by a mile, to be selfish once and awhile. He's a Bruins Captain right now and he needs to start acting like it.
SCHILLING ENJOYS KILLING Y*NKEES
My friend Josh said we should call Schilling Curt "The Hurt." I don't like it. I prefer calling him Kurt with a K.
NY Y*nkees 2
Boston RS 5
W: Kurt Schilling (2-0)
L: Mike "Washed Up" Mussina (1-3)
H: Mike "Still Timid" Timlin (2)
Mussina looks really weak. The scum have very little pitching. At the moment they have no #5 starter and their #1 starter has three losses. Timlin had a good outing. Every starter but Pokey got a hit.
The Man of the Game is Kurt Schilling. He only threw 6.1 innings but he struck out 8, and alowed only 1 run on 6 hits. He threw 121 pitches. It is nice having a horse like him in the rotation.
WAKEFIELD ATONES FOR BOONE HOMER...ALMOST
We'll all remember Wakefield gave up the Boone HR just like Torrez gave up the Dent homerun. However, if Wake can help us win a championship, he will be forgiven and pardoned by the Pope of Pedronicism (me).
NY Y*nkees 2
Boston RS 6
W: Tim Wakefield (1-0)
L: Javier Vazquez (1-1)
H: Embree (2)
Resse had another error to go along with his below average average. Mueller is starting to hit, thankfully. We need him to get on base for Manny, Ortiz and Millar and eventually Nomar. Mirabelli continues to be the best backup catcher in baseball going 2 for 3 with a double and a homer.
Doug "Grand Baron" Mirabelli is a good candidate for Man of the Game with his 2 RBI, 6 total bases and all this coming off the bench to start cold. However, Wakefield is the Man of the Game. He threw 7 innings allowing one earned run (2 R) off of only 4 hits. He also struck out 4.
GREAT SPORTS DAY FOR BOSTON ON PATRIOT'S DAY
In 1775, Paul Revere left Boston after seeing the lights of the Old North Church. He rode to Lexington to warn Sam Adams and John Hancock (these names should be familiar) that the British were coming by sea (the Charles River) to seize an illegal arms cache in nearby Concord. He was joined by William Dawes and Dr. Samuel Prescott (whose namesake was given to the school at which my mother teaches I think).
The historical story
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem
Anyway, the Boston Marathon is run on the Monday closest to April 18. also, the Red Sox play a home game at 11 am so fans can watch the marathon through Kenmore Square. Barring an offensive war or extra innings, the fans are usually able to see some of the top runners.
Marathon route
Patriot's Day 2004 is made extra special by the fact that two Boston sports teams host arch rivals. The Sox play the Y*nkees tomorrow at 11 and the Bruins play the Canadiens in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals. If I were home in Massachusetts, I'd be at all three of these events getting drunker and drunker. What a pity I'm in shitty Ithaca.
