PATS STREAK HITS 17
The New England Patriots started the 2004 season right where they left off in the Super Bowl. Close but convincing victories. The Patriots also purchased the remaining 10% of the Colts and finalized their deal for the ownership of Peyton Manning. The defense wasn't all that impressive particularly against the run. I think it will take time for Wilfork to adjust to being an NFL tackle and Warren to adjust from being the team's backup DT to the starting DE. After this game, alot of Patriots haters at my school were telling me that the Pats got lucky. There is some luck in sports. When a player fumbles and the bounce brings the ball right back into his hands, that is luck. When a referee makes a bad call, that is luck. However, another team's inability to perform is not luck. A football game is played to determine who performs best. Vanderjagt was unable to kick a 48 yard field goal and thus was not able to perform for a play. This resulted in a loss instead of an overtime. Granted, the Pats didn't have too much to do with Vanderjagt missing his field goal beyond the McGinist sack that made it a 48 yard field goal instead of a 40 yarder. This does not mean we got lucky, though. It simply means Vanderjagt failed. We succeeded more than the Colts in situations that meant more and therefore we won the game.

I'm going to do a Man of the Game for the Patriots because it is alot easier to total it up. Sadly, there will be no Bitch-Goat. The Man of the Game is Tom Brady. He went 26 for 38 for 335 yards, 3 TDs, and an unfortunate iNT. He stayed incredibly calm under some tough pressure and made some big throws. He threw for 18 of the Patriots 22 first downs. Honorable mentions go to Josh Miller who demonstrated what a punter looks like. With the field position battles the Pats inevitable get involved in, having a bona fide punter helps out alot more than people would like to think a punter could help a team. Teddy Bruschi also gets an HM for his HUGE pickoff on the 1 yard line. Finally, Vince Wilfork made a heads up play after recovering an Edgerrin James fumble on the 1, falling back behind the goal line and then having the awareness to toss a receiver out of his way and bringing the ball out to the 1 instead of taking a safety.

The Pats look for win #2 on the road to Tempa, AZ. The Cardinals suck, but remember that the Texans nearly beat us last year and they weren't all that great.

SOX SPLIT WITH SEATTLE
I gotta say I'm dissapointed with this series. We easily could have swept this team and gone 7-0 on a west coast trip. A split isn't a terrible result especially after sweeping Oakland. However, if we want to win the division, we have to win as many games as possible. We can pretty much cruise for the wild card and take it down, but the division will require us to beat up on the crap of the league because that is what the Y*nkees are doing. Sox are back home tonight for a series with Tampa.

SOONER SCHOONER CONTINUES TO ROLL
I'm not getting too excited. We haven't played anyone yet and the finish is 1,000 times more important than the start.

IC BOMBERS WIN OPENER
Ithaca beat Buffalo State 45-0. Is there any good football in Buffalo? The Bills suck, Buffalo U. sucks, and Buff State sucks.

XAVERIAN BEATS FITCHBURG
#8 Xaverian 41
Fitchburg 7

The Hawks have a tough schedule this year and haven't made the playoffs since 1998. They have to play 5 top 10 teams this season.
